This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting with the Perry family genealogist and family historian Valenica Burnette, whom wanted to share her family history with me. She took me on a tour to the family homestead in Arcola, La. It all started with Abe Perry, Abe was a slave from Haiti and was sold in New Orleans. He was brought and sold to a family in Arcola, Louisiana according to the oral history that has been told by the family griot. I was amazed to see the old family home of Robert and Molly Lewis Perry still standing in fair condition. Behind the family place is the old smoke house and out house still standing. The many plum trees that Robert and Molly planted is still blooming and getting ready to blosom with sweet red plums. Valencia and her family were reflecting on the good old days sitting on the front porch. Please join host Antoinette Harrell and her guest Valencia Burnette for an upcoming discussion on the Perry Family History of Tangipahoa Parish, La.
