Jan Smith is a family rights activist and lobbyist located in WA State and a graduate from Evergreen State College. Starting in 2006, the state stepped in and took her grandson from the parents and sidestepped relative placement using unethical tactics with court behaviors violating all normal standards in the process. This caused Jan to seek out help while researching the topic of grandparent rights in WA State. After fighting the system for six years and two more grandchildren later, she is now nationally and internationally known with an extensive research background in child protection systems. She expanded her interests and activism into family law after discovering the unfair practices of child support collection along with obscure laws, rules and regulations in VAWA that parallel CPS actions. This is also a personal issue because Jan was an alienated child from one parent due to the adverse actions of her mother. On April 25th, she is staging an international public awareness campaign and protest with the UN and United Nations Association regarding international public policy on the family and will be in NYC UN headquarters for this event.
