Daughter of Mal Waldron, Mala is an accomplished musician in her own right. Mala Waldron is a prolific songwriter as well as an accomplished pianist/vocalist based in the New York City area. She has performed internationally in such places as France, Italy, Japan, China, Malaysia, Belgium and most recently Russia. Her CDs include "Hes My Father" (duo with father, jazz pianist/composer Mal Waldron,) "Lullabye" (tribute to her godmother, Billie Holiday) and her most recent "Always There" which, in addition to being her first U.S. release, was also licensed by Columbia Records in Japan and voted one of the "Top 20 Jazz CDs of 2006" by Jazz USA. Equally captivating on vocals as on piano, she has been compared to the likes of Nina Simone, Diana Krall and Roberta Flack, probably because her style has a broad appeal. She has clearly drawn on the various genres of music that she was exposed to as a child, but the strongest of these is jazz which came from her parents, both jazz pianists, and this remains her foundation.
